The perfect starter battery over 75 years
Since 1945, millions of MOLL batteries have left the factory in Bad Staffelstein, Bavaria for use all over the world. Trend-setting technical developments with numerous patents and world-class production standards have been the company's guiding principles. These principles still characterize the philosophy of MOLL today and will continue to guarantee the premium quality of the MOLL brand in the future. MOLL is a development partner for the automotive industry and has set industry milestones for the development of today's modern starter batteries (e.g. batteries for the start-stop function).
Wet batteries: This type of battery is often found in older vehicles. They are based on lead-acid technology and offer solid performance, but can leak due to their construction and electrolyte fluid.
EFB batteries: These batteries are a further development of lead-acid batteries and were specially developed for vehicles with many electrical consumers. They are characterized by improved cycle stability and can cope with a higher electrical load.
AGM batteries (VRLA): AGM batteries offer even higher cycle stability and performance compared to conventional batteries. They are now mandatory in many new vehicles with start-stop systems, as they can meet the high requirements of this technology. Their design also makes them leak-proof.
Lithium batteries have become increasingly popular in recent years. They offer outstanding starting performance and cycle stability. They are also significantly lighter than other battery types. Lithium batteries are often used in high-performance vehicles as they provide a reliable source of energy while reducing the weight of the vehicle.
Do I need to charge the battery before installation?
The batteries are pre-charged to approx. 90%, charging before installation is advisable but not absolutely necessary.
Service life and wear
Charging a car battery causes electrochemical reactions in which the concentration of sulphuric acid in the electrolyte solution decreases. However, as a certain amount of loss always occurs during this process, starter batteries only have a limited number of charging cycles. The actual service life of the battery varies depending on use and care and can last for different numbers of years.
The alternator in your vehicle is responsible for fully charging the battery while driving. However, if the vehicle is left unused for a long period of time, the battery will discharge itself over time. This leads to a deep discharge, during which the battery suffers a considerable loss of capacity. It is therefore important to check the battery regularly and charge it if necessary to prevent deep discharge. An external power source such as a battery charger should be used to keep the battery at an optimum state of charge, especially during longer downtimes.
Disposal
Old starter batteries can be disposed of at recycling centers, scrap dealers, workshops or a specialist dealer for car batteries. Obtain a certificate of disposal, as a statutory battery deposit of €7.50 is payable on the purchase of a new car battery in accordance with the Battery Protection Act.
